Spud and his Cloud

‘Spud and his Cloud’ is a gentle introduction for young readers and listeners to learn about mental wellbeing, empathy and the power of words. With Spud’s feelings depicted through the visible cloud that hovers above him, the reader gets to instantly see how negative words and actions impact his mood and feelings.
Spud is a story to show how much words matter and that it’s never too late to make things better. It comes with an activity page to reinforce the message of the story and to help the reader plan what they would do if they saw or experienced something like this.
This is Spud, and that large cloud above Spud’s head is his mood cloud.
Most of the time, Spud’s mood cloud is light and fluffy.
That’s because nice words fill the cloud, and this makes Spud feel happy.
It’s Spud’s first day at a new school today and he’s very excited to make some friends.
His mood cloud is the lightest and fluffiest it has ever been.

Spud is a happy little spud with a light and fluffy mood cloud. Excited to start school and make some friends, things don’t quite go to plan when his appointed buddy for the day, Sprout, wants nothing to do with him. Sprout just wants to hang out with his best friend Pepper. Just like he does every day at school. This constant rejection makes Spud’s cloud so grey and heavy that it starts to rain like never before.
Can Sprout come up with the perfect plan to help make Spud and his cloud happy again?
There are lots of plans afoot for other ways in which Spud and his Cloud can continue helping young readers and listeners to talk about kindness, inclusion, words and feelings. Early conversations are an important bedrock to help young people learn and understand about mental health and wellbeing.
I am currently seeking representation and a publishing deal for my work.
