About

Blue Dragonfly

My name is Becky Nancarrow

Becky lives in London with her two daughters, their dad , a small rescue dog named Annie and a Yoshi the gecko, who looks like a tiny crocodile.

I have been a storyteller for as long as I can remember. As a child I loved to draw and write stories all the time and then went on to act stories as a performer before working as an educational resource creator for a children’s charity. I’m incredibly passionate about creating content for young people, especially when it can help empower those who need it the most or bring about change.

All of this has definitely inspired the need to write these books for children, but it is my own lived experience as a mother of a child who was born with difference and all I have witnessed over the last 11 years, that has propelled me to write about young people who are born with difference. Having observed the stares, comments, and non-existent friendships, I see a need for conversations about difference, kindness and acceptance.  And what better way to do this than write stories for young readers and listeners to enjoy, to be curious about, to ask questions and above all, to talk about difference in a positive way.  Together with the other stories in the series, ‘Willow’ is here to bring a better understanding of diversity and inclusion to younger readers.

My daughter’s journey, her kind and resilient sister and the amazing, courageous, brilliant, funny, talented young people I have been fortunate to meet along the way, are my inspiration and I dedicate all of this to all of them.
